What topics or questions may Cardiogram ask?

Cardiogram occasionally runs in-app messaging that asks our users questions about their health. Typically, they look something like this:

Please note that every question we ask is accompanied by an explanation of why we are asking it. For instance, we may ask if you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes because it helps us contribute to medical research. However, it is entirely up to you whether or not you choose to answer these questions. If you feel uncomfortable answering them, you can dismiss them by tapping the 'X' in the top right-hand corner.

Please be aware that these questions are shown to all users and do not imply that there is something alarming about your heart rate patterns. However, if you are at all concerned, we advise you to reach out to your doctor just in case!

This FAQ covers the messaging we are currently running, our rationale behind it, as well as what we intend to do with the data we collect. If there is anything that is not covered here, please contact the support team by email at [email protected]. Our customer support team would be more than happy to answer your questions.

Tracking the Effects of the Flu on Heart Rate

Cardiogram is curious about how your heart rate might change when you have the flu and how understanding these changes might help you better contextualize your heart rate patterns. For more details, check out our article on How your heart rate can show signs of the flu.

Health Conditions

This question helps us understand what users might be using Cardiogram for and what our user base looks like; this allows us to build better features that accurately reflect the needs of our users.

Type 2 Diabetes / Sleep Apnea / Hypertension / Hyperlipidemia

Some research suggests that your heart rate patterns can change when you develop conditions like diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, and others. We want to learn whether we can observe these differences. If you see this question, it does NOT mean that we think you have the condition—we ask it to everyone.

We've also recently introduced Insight cards that appear on the top of your Timeline:

Some of these are Q&A insights, and they operate on the same principles as the other questions—responding is completely voluntary, and their appearance is not a sign that anything is wrong (we are just curious about our users and want to build a better app!)

Previous Diagnoses

We're working on making Cardiogram a heart-rate based journal companion that provides tailored insights to our users. This question is meant to help us understand what insights might be most useful for you so that we can show you relevant content.

You might also see 'Journal Insight' cards. These are meant to provide helpful insights based on the symptoms you've been tracking.

Fatigue

We'll show you a card like this if you've tagged Fatigue as one of your symptoms. It explains how your heart rate might contribute to your level of energy.

On the last page of most Insights, you'll see a section to provide feedback on the Insight. This feedback will help us determine which insights users like and dislike so that we can generate more or less of them.

If you found this helpful, please tap 'More like this.' If not, tap 'Fewer like this.' Additionally, you can provide us with more detailed feedback by either sending an email to [email protected] or by accessing 'Submit Feedback' in the sidebar. To open the sidebar, simply tap the three lines located in the top left corner of the Timeline pane.
