What do the colors and symbols on my Cardiogram graph mean?

Your Cardiogram graph uses color-coded bars and icons to help you interpret your heart rate patterns. These visual cues follow general heart rate guidelines from the American Heart Association and are designed to help you quickly recognize resting, elevated, or abnormal heart rate zones.

📊 Color meanings

Each bar shows your average heart rate (BPM) during a short time window. The color represents the range:

  • 🔴 Red (150+ bpm) – Very high
  • 🟠 Orange (100–150 bpm) – Elevated
  • 🟢 Green (60–100 bpm) – Normal resting range
  • 🔵 Blue (<60 bpm) – Below typical resting range

💡 Note: Cardiogram supports many different devices, so exact colors may vary slightly depending on your hardware. However, the color groupings and thresholds remain consistent.

❓ What do the “?” tags mean?

“?” tags mark heart rate spikes during inactivity, where your BPM rose significantly without detected steps.

Tap the icon to:

  • Add a note about what happened
  • Or delete the tag if it seems inaccurate

⬜ Why are there gaps in my graph?

Gaps = missing data or no measurement was taken. These appear when your wearable didn’t record heart rate, often due to:

  • Loose skin contact
  • Low battery
  • Sensor limitations
  • Your watch didn't measure during that time

↔️ Why are some bars wider?

The width of a bar shows how long that data segment lasted. Longer intervals = wider bars.

🖼️ How to view the legend in the app

You can always view the color legend in Cardiogram:

  1. Tap the three dots (•••) on the top-right of your Timeline
  2. Select “Legend"
