How do I disable background heart rate sampling on my Wear OS watch?
If you’d prefer to stop continuous background heart rate tracking on your Wear OS device, you can easily disable it through the Cardiogram app.
🔧 How to disable background sampling
Option 1: From within the Cardiogram app
- Open the Cardiogram app on your Wear OS watch
- Swipe right twice to reach the Sampling Settings page
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen
- Toggle the switch labeled “Enabled” to turn off sampling
Option 2: From the persistent notification
If background sampling is active, you’ll see a persistent notification from Cardiogram.
- Tap the notification
Choose “Disable Sampling”

Tap to open Sampling Settings and toggle it off from there
✅ What happens when it’s off?
Even with background sampling disabled, you can still:
• Take manual heart rate readings anytime
• Use Workout Mode for continuous heart rate tracking during specific activities
