When does the Apple Watch take a heart rate measurement?

By default, your Apple Watch collects heart rate readings every 3 to 7 minutes throughout the day.

If you want more frequent measurements — around every 5 seconds — you can:

• Open the Cardiogram app on your Apple Watch and turn on Continuous Recording

• Or start a workout using the Workout app on your Apple Watch

Keep in mind that collecting heart rate more frequently will use more battery, so your Apple Watch may need to be charged sooner.

Compatibility reminder

The Cardiogram watch app requires watchOS 6.2 or later.

If you don’t see the app on your watch, make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of watchOS.
